The Fraser Pit

2014 Clubman SP 330 - Timeline

I've wanted a Fraser for about 15 years now. On a trip back to NZ, I finally took the plunge and went for a test drive of DMOFSR. After being in an F20C powered Fraser, that sealed the deal - hp was required. With a history of forced induction cars, it took quite some soul searching to decide, ultimately went with a Rotrex supercharged Honda K20A.

It's taken quite some effort to package it as you'll see from the timeline below. Thanks to the creative thinking of Scott, Dan and the crew. Only possible by dry sumping the engine to get it low enough in the chassis and clever positioning of the ancillaries - with the race nose cone she all fits.

With Fraser's wide track race front end, practically every bit or bob specced out, this will be quite the exhilarating machine. Painted in Grigio Telesto, trimmed in Alcantara where we can, accented in red and vitals coming up on the AIM digital dash, the goal is to have true track day ready machine that's road drivable (no sequential boxes!)

Talked to Scott last night

Gave the green light, here's the important bits:

- Clubman S
- Wide track front end
- Wilwood brakes (going to need em)
- Honda K20A engine
- W55 Toyota Gearbox
- Rotrex C30-94
- DTA S80 ECU (incl wheel speed sensors)
- Larger injectors likely 750cc
- Pace Dry Sump
- LSD Diff
- Alloy radiator

- Intercooling: Water to Air or Air to Air TBD on engine install, basically whatever fits easiest with the shortest intake tract length
- Dash: TBD, likely AIM Strada
- Interior: TBD, likely bucket seat option

It took a while to justify it to myself, but, like all good decisions got there in the end. It's going to be a while to build, as I'm not in a hurry. Pics will make it to Macht2 as progress is made!

Thanks to Gazza and Andrew on the advice/rubber arm twisting :)

How about that - cheaper from NZ !

Just got a quote for an AIM MXL Pista Digital dash (hat tip Andrew!) I can pick up a digital dash in NZ for cheaper than it will be to get from the States, ship to Canada and fly down with me when I come on a visit home.

All motor vs turning up the boost. F20C or 3SGTE?

What am I thinking ? I was sold, done, dusted, settled on the 3SGTE. Then I started cruising the internet searching F20C, we all know how this ends.

In one corner we have a high revving, Honda engine, the F20C a work of art and sounds glorious. It's not going to be easy to get in there. I assume highly reliable (assumption), and if I want to do track days, should be able to go and go and go. And in the other corner the 3SGTE, also a good solid engine, tonnes of torque, no possible way going to run out of power. Might be, might be more finnicky, due to all the turbo plumbing...

Hmm. Damn you internet. Damn you.

One of the videos from Ida...

More from my initial Fraser research. Want to know what the KL vs the F20C vs a MX5 Turbo sound like on a fraser ?

I really should have kept that plate. What was I thinking selling it ? a 3SGTE with a GT25R (thanks Steve for the advice), on R888's. The old 300ZX TT was quick. This Fraser will be insanely quick. Is it enough for me to get my original plates back ? Not sure. But one thing is sure, I am investigating putting Racelogic Traction control in the Fraser. It was great fun in the TTZ... dial up your wheelspin %age, go nuts.
